Business Working with the Community
Toronto is located at Lake Macquarie, one hour by car north of Sydney. The population we service is around 30,000 people and there are around 725 businesses in the area. The majority of our businesses are small and locally owned, 90% employing five or less people.
The chamber of commerce is the largest chamber outside of Newcastle and is the most proactive chamber in Lake Macquarie. The chamber employs a town coordinator through the Department of State & Regional Development Main Street Program and has done since 1996.
The members of the chamber set their business plan on a three year basis and this is put into practice through a yearly plan of management. The chamber's action plans currently include small business education development and training, technology upskilling, heritage design and development of the area and tourism development.
Toronto has two major festivals each year which are organised by the chamber of commerce, including the Toronto Village Fair and the Lake Macquarie Heritage Afloat. On top of these two, the chamber organises training seminars, market days, music in the park, coordinates the Work for the Dole Program and many other promotional activities throughout the year. Our vision is 'Business Working with the Community'.
